How Long Does Popcorn Ceiling Removal Take?

A single room — say, a master bedroom or living room — can usually be done in one day if we're just doing removal. If skim coat and painting are included, plan for two days: one for removal and repair, one for finishing and painting.

Multiple Rooms: 2–4 Days

A job covering three to six rooms typically takes two to four days for the full-service treatment. We move room by room and sequence the work so we're not waiting on drying time unnecessarily.

Whole-Home: 3–7 Days

A full home in Utah Valley — usually 1,500 to 3,000 square feet of ceiling — takes three to seven days depending on layout, ceiling height, and what's included. Jobs with a lot of vaulted ceilings or significant drywall repair take longer.

What Takes the Most Time

Skim coat drying — Joint compound needs to dry completely before sanding, and depending on humidity, that can take 8–24 hours per coat. We often apply the first coat in the evening and sand the next morning.

Painted ceilings — Painted popcorn takes longer to scrape than unpainted texture. Plan for 20–30% more time.

Drywall repair — If there's significant damage underneath the texture, repairs add time before skim coat can be applied.
